What We Need:

Atomic Fiction is looking for a full-time Financial Controller. Reporting to the CFO, the ideal candidate is self- motivated and technology savvy, possesses strong organizational skills, and is extremely attentive to details. To be successful in this role, you must have a very strong understanding of accounting principles, month-end and year-end processes as well as of what it takes to embrace full ownership of the core functions of a finance and accounting department. The candidate must also have a deep knowledge of financial statements and be able to provide high-level insights for decision-making at the executive level. Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership and manage the department’s core functions, namely financial statements and month-end processes including financial reporting, payables and receivables, reconciliations and tax-related matters;
  • Provide support to the CFO for year-end audited financial statements, Board of Directors and Executives meetings preparation;
  • Oversee daily and monthly bookkeeping functions with the support of the Accounting Analyst;
  • Review journal entries and bank reconciliations prepared by Accounting Analyst;
  • Manage accounts payable & receivable;
  • Review and project payroll trends;
  • Master all tax-related matters and duties, including preparation of corporate taxes, sales taxes, labour remittances and all year-end forms preparation;
  • Assist in monitoring cash flows and perform cash management-related tasks;
  • Participate in the quarterly forecast & outlook, annual budget preparation and other ad hoc analysis in support to the CFO; and
  • Be a CPA mentor for the Accounting Analyst by providing training and assistance.
  • Establish best practices for record keeping and desktop procedures

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and CPA designation (a must)
  • Minimum of five years of qualified accounting and finance experience
  • Experience supervising month-end and year-end audit processes, as well as accounting personnel
  • Deep knowledge of sales taxes, payroll levies, and related filings required
  • Keen attention to details;
  • Strong organizational skills – ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to plan to meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy;
  • Clear communicator and strong interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and overall database management;
  • Experience with Netsuite Accounting Software and ADP Payroll a very strong asset;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality;
  • Adept to handling sensitive documents; and
  • Fluency in both English and French.
