CG Supervisor


The CG Supervisor works in collaboration with the Visual Effects Supervisor and VFX Producer and is responsible for all CG aspects of a project. The role includes developing and implementing a workflow for each show and establishing potential strategies. This person manages the needs and development of the team and ensures the quality of the work before delivery. He or she provides technical and artistic feedback to the team as well as a strong, collaborative and inspiring leadership.


Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Work with the VFX Supervisor to explore and define the technical and creative look of a show to a client’s requirements and specifications;
  • Work with Producers and other Supervisors to determine the deadlines for delivery;
  • Provide direction to all CG departments, setting objectives and monitoring the progress and results;
  • Work closely with production, CG artists and other necessary departments in creating high quality visual effects;
  • Evaluate the necessary creative requirements of a show and make integral operational decisions;
  • Determine the technical requirements and brief developers on R&D and pipeline requirements;
  • Manage and maintain the most practical and efficient technical approach and workflow for projects;
  • Handle reviews as final quality control on all deliveries of shots prior to VFX Supervisor and client review
  • Determine and eradicate potential problems in pipeline tools prior to impact on production;
  • Train the team members and review their work, ensuring high company standard results in all aspects of production including assets, dev, rigging, animation, lighting, and FX;
  • Assist in the interview process of 3D artists to ensure the skills and experience required for projects are met.


Requirements and Competencies:

  • 3+ years of work experience as a supervisor in the visual effects industry;
  • Bilingualism in French and English a strong asset;
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and project management skills;
  • Proven team leadership, strong motivational skills and eagerness to share knowledge;
  • Demonstrated creative aptitude and artistic talent;
  • Previous experience working within production leadership teams and meeting schedule and budget requirements;
  • Thorough understanding of all areas of 3D (modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, look development, environments, CFX and FX);
  • An understanding of the 2D pipeline is crucial;
  • Experience with a wide variety of software packages;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Katana, experience with V-Ray and knowledge of Python scripting is considered an asset;
  • The ability to write code and assist in tool/pipeline R&D development.
